A little background on Looe:

Archeological evidence shows that the area around Looe has been a settlement since 1,000BC. Looe is divided into East and West Looe by the River Looe. The current seven-arched Victorian stone bridge was opened in 1853. A previous stone bridge was built in 1436, and had a chapel dedicated to St Anne in the middle. St George's Island, or Looe Island, is about a mile off the coast of West Looe.
